Main Stage - Forum North

The Exhibition Hall in Forum North is being transformed for the weekends festivities, and will host a wonderful selection of talented performers, performances from across cultures and art forms. It really doesn't matter what time you arrive during the day - your $5 contribution will gain you entry to enjoy a wonderful performance.

Each day begins with classical type music, lot of fun in between and ends with bands playing music to get up and dance to...

At one end of Forum North you will find the stage... and the other, we have organised a colourful cafe... where you can sit and enjoy delicious food from The Teahouse and relax with a wine or beer in colourful surroundings. Be entertained whilst enjoying breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee or cakes! We also have Champagne on offer for those who would like to enjoy Champagne with Breakfast or Brunch...

The Whangarei Pipe Band will awaken Northland with upbeat and traditional tunes! Come and march toward Forum North and enjoy sounds of Scottish pipes blend with African and International drumming around the big tree.

Rock n Roll 10:30am Rock n Roll Dance
The Whangarei Rock N Roll Club will be offering a fun filled event featuring 5 min of movement to music for toddlers called toddler rock and get some little ones joining in from the crowd. We will also show casing our great dancers in a demo of rock n roll showing the wide variety of dancers that we have from the experienced to the not so experienced showing you how easy it is to get dancing. They will throw in some great line dancing for you to join in with.

We were established in May 2010 and our roopu embraces our kaumatua, kuia and our tamariki. Our values are underpinned by whanau and we are descendants of Manaia. Children of the Sea. Ngati Wai. Come and enjoy our performance.
Salsa 12:30pm Salsa Dance Workshop
After a salsa demonstration by the teacher of the Whangarei Salsa Dance Group, a group of beginners will do a salsa demo, followed by a Bachata demonstration. Bachata is another dance and the music has a beautiful beat. Following that they will do the workshop and we expect people to get up and have a go. You can try basic salsa steps and finally they will do the Merengue. This is another dance with an awesome beat, it is easy and great exercise. This is your chance to try salsa, so come along and be prepared to shake your BOOTY. See you there.

Sounds of folk, rock guitar and vocals - a unique and electric vibe mixed with a soulful and passionate expression....
African Dance 2:30pm African Dance Workshop
Ra is an Educator, Community Arts Worker, and Performance Artist. She shares traditional African dances and rhythms as well as afro-inspired choreography as a method of creating community and helping individuals heal and grow. Ra is deeply respectful and keenly aware that the information she shares comes directly from ancient cultures and believes that open-hearted participation can allow access to deeper, subtle wisdom about ourselves and the world we live in. Ra's classes are high energy, joyous, and inclusive. No dance experience is necessary. Wear clothing you can move in and bring water.
Bare Feet 3:30pm Bare Feet
Bare Feet formed just over 3 years ago after frequenting local jam sessions in Whangarei. The four members seemed to have a lean toward doing there own music and has kept them together to this day. Opera North have a wealth of talented Operatic Singers in their group and today will present some of these Divas and stars performing a selection of Operatic Arias, duets and trios from well know Operas and Operettas. We are so fortunate to have such a star studded group of singers here in Whangarei who love to perform and entertain local audiences with high class entertainment

Clare Penny is a passionate, dedicated and informed teacher, who aims to bring out the best in every student at every playing level. She has a flourishing teaching practice, and is a regular performer as both a concert soloist and as a member of various ensembles. Clare has lived in the Bay of Islands since 2006.
Samoan Girls 11:30pm Dances of Samoa
The Samoan Northland Community Inc is performing at the Mid Winter Festival. We will be performing Samoan dances for the Festival, dancing items by the children and the ladies. We are sure the Northland community will enjoy watching us perform.
11:50am Hardcore Dance Company
Hardcore Dance Company was established in 1999 by Annalise Morris, who became the world's top female freestyle dancer in 1998 at a Planet Dance competition.
The Company has been running successfully since then.
Functioning on a workshop basis, HDC offers a fun and funky opportunity to learn a wide range of dance. These include hip hop, street funk and the latest music video style, in an easy going environment at an affordable price.

Max Maxwell 1:00pm Sing for Joy – TOGETHER - with Max Maxwell
Visiting Auckland choir leader, Max Maxwell, is presenting a singing workshop. Max is a singer, musician and heart warmingly good guy. He dances around enthusing his singers, makes every single person feel they are the best thing that has happened to him all day and is relentlessly buoyant. Max’s favourite proverb (from Zimbabwe) reads “If you can walk you can run, if you can talk you can sing”
Hans 2:00pm Long Louis Circus Performance
A Inspiration to young performers, Louis has had lots of experience performing locally over the last few years, has had television appearances and has performed at the Belfast Festival of Fools, Theatrical and Circus shows in Northern Ireland. Irish Circus skilled physical comedian, performing skilful juggling and dangerous circus stunts with very tall unicycles and a bit of Irish dance. Including Bucket loads of comedy, using audience participation and making a right fool of himself he performs a highly entertaining and memorable show for all to enjoy.

Colourful and cosy - the area will be open all day and into the evening - a perfect place to come and be before a show or concert - or to chill out and listen to some of wonderful local buskers all day...

The Go Luckys are a musical duo with an acoustic flavour, vocal harmonies and a wide repertoire of songs. Based in Whangarei, The Go Luckys features Tanya Maich (vocals) and Glenn Davidson (guitar, vocals). Tanya and Glenn’s play list features latest songs alongside old favourites and includes rock n roll, country, pop, folk and rock.

11:30am Indian Classical Musicians
Mr. Basant Madhur is well known and beloved tabla player, before coming to Auckland he has earned good name in a big country like India in the field of tabla. He is a class one approved artist of All India Radio & Television and was a highly demanded artist in North India. Here in Auckland he is running a music school called , " Sargam School of Indain Music " and a reguler performer with local & international musicians including Gramee Nominee Indian Flautiest Pt Ronu Majumdar. Basant has performed in Auckland Festival of Music, Titirangi Festival of music, Prana festival of Music and is also associated with several western musicians.
The Vocalist and violinist music maestro Mr. Shukdev Madhur , is recipient of National Award from president of India is 1993 for his work done in the field of Indian classical music. He was a main conductor and trainer of National Repute and was associated with NCRTC, New Delhi for ten years. He was also a member of the Audition Board of All India Radio. He is a strict follower of Indian Values in imparting the education. Now both Prof Madhur and Basant are associated with Sargam school Music in Auckland and performing togather in all the festivals.

Kat Brown is a local musician with an extensive repertoire of songs. Kat sings and strums to covers ranging from the then to the now, old to the new and also plays her very own original tunes. Folky and funky renditions compliment her dulcet tones and mellow strums.
  1:00pm Ruddytowns
Ruddytowns is an acoustic duo that plays everything from the folk genre to modern rock. The band is made up of Chris Townshend, a Canadian who is now teaching at Tauraroa Area School and Troy Rudman reigning from Ruakaka. If you enjoy dancing, listening or even singing along to your favourite songs then definitely check this pair out. These boys can entertain an audience in any venue be it a cafe, 21st party, wedding or your local pub for a night on the town!
